Nancy arrives in Titusville to investigate a series of strange events. When old man Josiah Crowley died, he was supposed to have left a portion of his estate to Emily Crandall to help her run the Lilac Inn.

The town is in for a big surprise when Richard Topham, the spooky and eccentric teacher of the paranormal, is declared the sole heir of Crowley's entire estate instead.

Now, Nancy must get to the bottom of things and discover what is behind the strange disappearances, otherworldly whispers and objects moved by invisible hands plaguing the Lilac Inn.
